Tim Waldron,
Director of Management Consultancy

Tim leads Action Planning’s Management Consultancy Team, which works with a wide range of organisations, helping them to develop good governance, sound strategy, strong management, effective operational plans and financial sustainability.

Tim has broad experience of the corporate, commercial and not-for-profit sectors. He qualified as a solicitor and worked with a leading investment bank before moving into an Operations Director role in the third sector, working with an innovative international charity and gaining an MSc in development management.

He subsequently established and led a nationally recognised legal practice specialising in the charity and not-for-profit sectors. Working with local, regional and national charities, not-for-profit organisations and social enterprises, he developed particular expertise in start-ups, constitutional and structural changes, mergers and acquisitions. He also advised for-profit corporations such as Microsoft on their sponsorship of charitable activities and educational partnerships.

Tim draws upon his considerable ‘hands on’ experience as a charity trustee. He is presently Chairman of YMCA England - a large and diverse federation of 140 community-based charities with a combined annual turnover of £220 million providing housing to 65,000 vulnerable young people and professional and relevant services in 250 communities each year. He is also Vice Chairman of Kingston & Wimbledon YMCA - one of the largest YMCAs in Europe employing 450 staff with an annual turnover approaching £12 million.

Tim writes and speaks extensively on issues impacting the not-for-profit sector and has had articles and letters published in The Times, The Sunday Times, New Statesman, Children & Young People Now and Association News. He is a regular columnist and commentator for Third Sector magazine and is presently a member of its Credit Crunch Panel - a panel of charity experts brought together by the magazine to monitor the impact of economic conditions on the charity sector.
