day-to-day financial needs is a tough challenge for
many churches, but what happens when you also need
to find tens or even hundreds of thousands of pounds
for a major refurbishment or a new building?
Action Planning, a fundraising consultancy which
specialises in helping churches and Christian charities,
is teaming up with Premier Christian Radio and leading
accountancy firm, Baker Tilly, to offer two ‘hands
on’ workshops for church leadership teams faced
with the challenge of raising large capital sums.
Presented by David
Saint (Chairman) and Margaret Martin (Director of Capital
Appeals) at Action Planning, with Steve McCrindle of
Baker Tilly, these full-day workshops should help your
team to develop the skills needed to run a successful
capital appeal including how to:
| • |
 |
develop a vision and mission for
your church which will help clarify the need for
premises and other resources and the ways in which
these may be provided |
| • |
 |
research the opportunity, if relevant,
to work with other churches, charities, your local
council and others to make a major impact in your
area |
| • |
 |
develop a persuasive ‘case
for support’ for your plans which can be presented
to donors |
| • |
 |
research this ‘case for support’ with
donors |
| • |
 |
establish and organise an appeal
committee
|
| • |
 |
encourage all donors to make gifts
proportionate to their means |
| • |
 |
use a successful capital appeal to
achieve a step change in regular giving |
| • |
 |
reduce the total cost of the project
by adapting your plans to minimise your VAT liability. |
“These workshops are excellent and
we have used your materials to help increase planned
giving by some £80,000 this year. The day provided
a large number of ideas, and boosted my confidence that
we could raise money successfully. I would thoroughly
recommend it to anyone fundraising for their church.”
John Barrett, Chair of Fundraising,
All Saints Church, Fulham, London
“I am pleased to endorse this set
of training workshops. A major capital fundraising campaign
can be a daunting task and time invested at the beginning,
thinking through the strategy and developing the right
case support, increases the chances of success significantly.”
Dr John Preston, National
Stewardship and Resources Officer, Church of England
“This workshop was clear, lucid, and honest.
It was led by someone who was speaking from recent
and successful experience, and provided clear explanation
of useful fundraising tools and sound advice.”
Daniel Robinson, Development Funding Officer, Diocese
of Gloucester
Space is limited to 60 people at each event in order to
maximise the benefit to individual participants.
