Action Planning’s capital appeals team is led by Margaret Martin and helps organisations to secure large sums of money to fund capital projects. We can provide a comprehensive service from start to finish, from an initial health check on your readiness to launch an appeal or a fundraising feasibility study through to full campaign management, ‘hands on’ fundraising, mentoring, training and ongoing support.

Planning and preparation are the keys to success when running a capital appeal and Action Planning’s capital appeals team helps clients to follow a proven route. Drawing upon years of fundraising experience with a wide range of organisations, and making use of extensive in-house resources including research and bid-writing teams, we provide a range of services which span the whole capital appeal process. These include:

a health check to see whether the organisation is ready to embark upon a capital appeal; what steps need to be taken in preparation and what timeline is achievable, plus our recommendations for the way forward.
a fundraising feasibility study which gives an external perspective on whether the appeal target can be achieved and where the funds are likely to come from. It typically includes developing the ‘case for support’, the business case as to why a donor should support the project, quantitative desk and on-line research to identify possible sources of funding, qualitative research, personal interviews with a sample pool of potential donors and supporters to test the case for support, seek opinions on the project and assess the potential level of financial support, and preparation of a final report which evaluates the findings, assesses how much might be raised over what time frame and recommends the most effective strategy to achieve this.

We can also use our ‘Wealth Intelligence’ service to screen your database, if you have one, against the largest UK database of the wealthy, to find potential major donors amongst your supporters.
support with the implementation of your appeal, which is tailored to your needs. We can undertake individual elements within the appeal such as Appeal Committee management, major donor development, bid-writing or research, help you appoint an appeal manager or place with you an experienced Action Planning consultant to prepare and deliver the strategy and fully implement the appeal.
mentoring, training and support which can be provided at the level required and may range from occasionally mentoring your team, to running bespoke in-house capital appeal training.

“Action Planning have provided excellent support and expert guidance through our Capital Appeal, from feasibility study, though strategic planning to practical help with research and preparation of applications.”
